Cardinal Security, the leading provider of dynamic and innovative security solutions, has announced a new high profile appointment to its senior management team, with David Davensac joining as Training and Development Manager. Davensac will take charge of the soon to open Cardinal Training Academy, which will perform a vital role in developing the skills of existing manned guarding personnel and attracting new entrants to the industry.

A learning and development specialist with over 23 years of experience, Davensac spent 10 years with Argos where his work included conducting training needs analysis, developing proposals and implementing plans. His expertise was subsequently enhanced with the formation of his own learning and development consultancy, which he operated for five years. His clients included a diverse number of blue chip national and international organisations, for which he created, developed, managed and delivered skills development and leadership programmes. His most recent position was with Specsavers, where he successfully launched and facilitated Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM) qualifications into the Netherlands and initiated the Insights Discovery model across Europe.

‘It’s not very often that an opportunity comes along that allows you to build something from the ground up,’ commented Davensac. ‘This role at the Cardinal Training Academy allows me to draw on my vast experience by developing a training and skills development strategy that can benefit all relevant parties. Not only have I been thoroughly impressed with Cardinal Security’s forward thinking approach and dedication to providing security services of unrivalled quality, I am also delighted to be reporting directly to Keith Rogers, the company’s Central Services & Systems Director, who has excellent knowledge and experience of training and skills development – this will enable us to get immediate traction and really make a difference.’

Due to open its doors in August and located at the Cardinal Security headquarters in Essex, the Cardinal Training Academy is a Highfield Awarding Body for Compliance (HABC) Approved Centre and its security qualifications are fully endorsed by the Security Industry Authority (SIA). It introduces an intelligent guarding concept that integrates the duties of a security officer with technology, electronic systems and the subsequent data produced.

Davensac and his team are currently putting the final touches to a range of modules that have been designed through consultation with end users and academics, while extensive surveys with a large number of current manned guarding officers have been carried out to obtain grassroots feedback. Modules will include loss prevention, report writing, understanding crime partnerships workings, behavioural analysis and profiling, health and safety, investigation skills, data and intelligence gathering, first aid, as well as customer service skills. The Cardinal Training Academy will also offer a diverse range of apprenticeships for people of all ages, including some specifically targeted at supervisory and management levels, as well as disciplines such as IT and human resources.

On welcoming Davensac to Cardinal Security, Keith Rogers said, ‘At the moment, security services providers are recruiting from a diminishing pool of talent but we are reacting positively to this challenge and we want to redefine what it means to be a manned guard. To that end, I’m confident that having someone with David’s wide ranging experience on board to lead the Cardinal Training Academy will ensure that we achieve all of our objectives by encouraging new entrants into the sector and creating a more diverse workforce.’
